Our one-of-a-kind beautiful daughter Holly turned four on Earth Day, so it's time for the story of her birth.
After gaining a whole 14 pounds again, on April 22, 2008, we woke up when the sun was warm, had a coffee on the beautiful deck at Guffey's Gap, then said WELL I guess we should stroll over to Harris Regional Hospital and have a baby today! Insert photos of us on the way to hospital:
So, we took our time going over Cowee Mountain, checked into the hospital, chilled for a while, then went into surgery prep about 12 noon, then after a brief delay from the surgery in front of us, we got wheeled into the rooom about 1 pm. The nurses administered a spinal block, the most amazing thing ever, which numbs you from the ribcage down but does absolutely nothing to your brain. So sober as a stone, I cried the whole time Dr. Potter was operating telling me how soon Holly would be out! As now-pro Daddy stood there watching the interns faint, and saying "babe, you really don't feel that??!", Dr. Potter yelled "oh Kellie She's Beautiful, wiped Holly off with a soft cloth and held her up over the sheet yelling like ... well, like Holly. As soon as we made eye contact she just stopped and we stared quietly at each other and it was the most awesome moment. After holding her a minute, then letting the nurses and midwife tend to her, we were resting comfortably together in our little room less than an hour later. And all was well.
Tune in next time for the June 22 release of the story of ASHLEE's birth, which is a little different. The experience of the first, i.e. attempt at natural birth against all the odds, led to the peaceful spa-like quality of the second, a planned cesarian section :)

PS - IN FACT I will start the story of Ashlee's birth on June 21, because that's when it started...x
